Usborne Books & More - Company Information
|
|
In 1973, Peter Usborne, based in England, decided to change the way in which educational
non-fiction books were written. His goal was to create books that would not only satisfy a child's
interest but also arouse it.
Usborne Books are designed graphically to draw students in, make them want to learn, and help them
retain that knowledge. They make reading and learning fun, rather than boring or intimidating.
Educational Development Corporation (EDC) was incorporated in 1965 as a developer of curriculum materials
for schools. In 1978, the Publishing Division was formed to distribute Usborne children's
books.
Usborne Books at Home (UBAH), the Home Business Division, was created in 1989.
Through independent sales consultants, UBAH distributes books through home shows, book fairs, and direct sales,
as well as sales to schools and libraries.
EDC is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol EDUC.
In November 1997, Forbes Magazine recognized EDC as one of the 200 Best Small Companies in America.
EDC's mission is to be the leading provider of quality children's books, maximizing customer satisfaction
while maintaining its profitability.
